The wilderness area also includes the upper Herd Creek watershed with one of the most intact native plant communities in the state, all accessible in a day-trip from the property. Wildlife abounds. The East Fork Salmon River is a critical spawning and rearing habitat for summer steelhead and Chinook salmon and serves as a major producer of anadromous fish in the upper Salmon River drainage, with the main Salmon river being roughly 7 miles down stream from the property. The property is in GMU 36A. The area provides diverse habitat for elk, bighorn sheep, mule deer, whitetail and antelope, and serves as a crucial migration corridor and winter range.
